SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT

Strengthening Our Goals for a More Sustainable Future   

WD is a leader in sustainable, scalable data storage for the AI infrastructure. Our sustainability commitments have a major impact on operations, product development, and supply chain management, as well as on our global environmental footprint. Continuing our focus on emissions, we remain committed to running our operations on 100% carbon-free energy by FY2030 and achieving net zero emissions in our operations (Scopes 1 and 2) by FY2032. We are also committing to diverting 95% of our operational waste from landfills and to reducing water withdrawals by 20% (vs FY2022), both by FY2030. Check out our progress on page 18 of the FY2025 Annual Sustainability Report. 

We continue to drive sustainability in our indirect supply chain (Scope 3). We have set goals for a 20% direct materials emissions reduction by FY2030 (vs FY2024) and 50% emissions reduction during the use phase of HDDs (per petabyte) by FY2030. For our enterprise HDDs, we have committed to using 43% recycled content in products and 72% recycled content in packaging by 2030.

WD is committed to protecting and supporting our people, our environment, and our communities. That commitment is reflected in our FY2025 report where we share our data-driven strategy and detail our significant achievements over the past fiscal year across environmental stewardship, stakeholder empowerment, and responsible business practices.

Notable highlights include:

  • We spearheaded the Advanced Recovery and Rare Earth Material Capture program. 
  • We engaged 100% of targeted suppliers on priority sustainability issues including decarbonization, human rights, and responsible minerals. 
  • We implemented an artificial intelligence policy to help our teams build skills to leverage AI tools and streamline workflows, boosting productivity.
