Internal SSDs

Faster speeds

Internal SSDs are typically faster than external SSDs, especially if they use NVMe like the WD_BLACK SN850X with speeds up to 7300MB/s.

Lower latency

Internal SSDs connect directly to your system’s motherboard via connections like PCIe® Gen4. That means less glitching and better response times.

Energy efficient

Internal SSDs draw power directly from your system without having to plug into an external power source.

Smaller footprint

Internal SSDs are typically smaller than external SSDs, like the WD_BLACK SN850X in an M.2 2280 form factor, making for quick, easy installation.

External SSDs

Easier portability

External SSDs make it easy to bring your games with you, wherever you go. Just plug in your device and play titles on other compatible systems.

Simpler installation

External SSDs connect to your PC with ports and cables on the outside of your rig. Attaching your drive and expanding capacity couldn’t be easier.

More compatibility

External SSDs can be compatible with desktops and laptop PCs to the latest generation of PlayStation® and Xbox™.

No-brainer backup

External SSDs don’t just enhance your system’s performance — they’re also a smart way to back up your gaming library and critical data.
