I have used SanDisk Memory cards in my cameras from the beginning of my digital photographic life.
They are the strongest link in the digital chain and ultimately the most important.
The only thing in the field that can’t be replaced are the moments I’ve already captured on the card.
They have earned my trust and loyalty. I have never lost a frame.

Behind the Scenes with Steve Simon
I’ve always been a Nikon guy and I’ve been cutting down my kit for practical purposes when traveling. Nikon Z7, Z6, Nikon D850 and some carefully curated lenses including the 24-70 f2.8S, 35mm f1.8, 58mm f1.4 and 70-200mm f2.8. Also a Nikon SB 5000 Flash, though I rarely use it. And my small/light Gitzo Travel Ocean Tripod.
I always do my research to put myself in the best places to make images, but as a documentary and street photographer I’m not in control of the world I am trying to capture. I try and organize the chaos as best I can within the frame but ultimately serendipity is my guide.
Squeeze the best from every photo situation. Get there early and stay late. Move around and not think too much but react to the place I’m in. The more personal I can make my images, the more universal they become.
I want to get as much right at capture onto my SanDisk CF Express card as possible. I will then enhance the image to bring out its best communication. But the less time in front of the computer the better.
I’m an overshooter—part insecurity but also because “moment” is so important in my work that a split second is important to me. As your work gets stronger, you set a higher bar for yourself and it takes more frames to get that top shelf keeper. When I cover American Political conventions for example I may shoot 20,000 frames for a couple of hundred selects. You can do the math…
