Michael Ray serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary for Western Digital Corporation (WDC).  He has held a number of positions at WDC since joining the company in 2000, including Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Vice President, Legal Services, Vice President – Corporate Law, and Assistant General Counsel.

Currently, Mr. Ray is responsible for WDC’s worldwide legal, risk management, compliance, and government relations functions.  He serves as a member of WDC’s executive management team and provides strategic advice to the team and the members of the company’s Board of Directors.  He oversees teams responsible for supporting the company’s efforts to develop, manufacture, market and sell digital storage products, systems and solutions globally.  He also leads teams responsible for protecting the company’s significant intellectual property, strengthening and defending WDC’s brands worldwide, and complying with regulatory and public company obligations.

Prior to joining WDC, Mr. Ray served as corporate counsel for Wynn’s International, Inc., an NYSE-listed manufacturer of automotive parts and chemicals; clerked for United States District Court Judge Linda McLaughlin of the Central District of California; and practiced trial law, law and motion and labor/employment law at O’Melveny & Myers, LLP.

Mr. Ray holds a bachelor’s degree, with honors, from Harvard College; and a law degree, with honors, from Harvard Law School.  Mr. Ray frequently lectures on a variety of topics including global antitrust review, corporate governance, ethics and compliance programs and law department management.  Mr. Ray has received numerous awards and citations, including the Orange County Anti-Defamation League’s Marcus Kaufman Jurisprudence Award, and his selection by the Orange County California Business Journal as the head of its Law Department of the Year in 2016, as its Public Company General Counsel of the Year in 2012, and as its Rising Star in 2010.  Mr. Ray currently  serves on the board of directors of Mercy House Transitional Living Centers and the board of trustees of South Coast Repertory Theater.
